Early 2000s - We take the leap into the magnificent adventure of Champagne growing...
With solid support from our family and the experience of two generations behind us, we have come to master the Champagne-growing trade.
We have both been lulled all our life long by the sound of tractors roaming our villages and to the tempo of harvests -the vendanges, which announce the end of summer. Both of us have been shaped by the conviviality of Champagne.
The history of our Maison goes back to my great-grandfather Émile Mercier in the 1920s. He was a winegrower in the Marne valley. He naturally showed the ropes to his son Lucien, my grandfather.
Lucien and his wife Josépha scaled up in the village of Passy-sur-Marne, producing their champagne in their name, in pure Champenoise tradition: Le Champagne Mercier.
My mother, Colette Mercier, always knew that she would walk into her parents' footsteps and take over the farm one day.
From the age of 14 she would follow her father Lucien in the vineyards and, season after season, learn the tricks of the trade of Champagne.
She and my father, Roger Collard, founded the estate 'Champagne Collard Mercier'.
We are now the ones carrying on with the family adventure. We feel proud every time we share our produce with you.
Our champagnes are refined and well-balanced. Their seductively fine sparkle wins amateurs and connoisseurs over every time.
From time immemorial the vineyards of Champagne have been thriving on the slopes lining the Valley of the Marne River, west of Épernay.
Sheltered from the wind by the meanders of the river, our south-facing vineyards enjoy maximum sunshine. The soil they grow on is clay and limestone, perfectly adapted to the culture of Pinot Meunier, which in fact copes well with the harsher climates on this side of the valley.
Pinot Meunier is the grape variety we use most in our blends. It typically yields supple fruit-flavoured wines, with a particular kind of freshness, which we are keen to present to you, maybe not for the first time.
